Different Ways to Clean Your Carpet

Sometimes, it can get quite expensive to get your carpet professionally cleaned. But having to deal with a dirty carpet is so much worse. So, we have listed different ways, both cheaper and more expensive, that you can clean your carpet at home.

Steam Carpet Cleaning

The procedure most frequently used to clean carpets is steam cleaning.

A chemical used to pre-condition carpets melts or loosens the dirt and oil-based substances that are frequently entrenched in carpet fibers as a result of foot traffic as well as other causes. After the cleaning agent settles in the carpet for a short duration, the carpet will be cleaned by a carpet cleaning machine to rinse the cleaning solution thoroughly. The hot water is heated to boiling point, and the steam is then pushed into the carpet fibers with pressure. Lastly, the carpet will be dried.

The hot water will help loosen the dirt, dislodge any insects, and kill them. Then it is vacuumed up along with any loosening and dissolving soil.

Steam cleaning is one of the most effective ways to fully deep clean your carpet. However, it does cost a lot more.

Baking Soda-Vacuuming Cleaning (Dry Cleaning)

The dry-cleaning process requires practically no water, therefore there is no drying period. One of the more affordable carpet cleaning options is this one. The dry-cleaning approach is much gentler on natural carpets that are vulnerable to damage and dries carpets more swiftly compared to any other cleaning procedure.  Furthermore, you don’t need a professional’s assistance to complete this task.

To do this, mix a small amount of baking powder with other powdered cleaning agents. After creating your powdered mixture, slowly sprinkle it over your carpet. You can use a mechanical brush to work it into the carpet, but if you don’t have one, you can simply use a regular brush. If you do this, make sure to wear a mask to prevent you from inhaling the powder mixture.

Next, let it sit for a few minutes to an hour, then vacuum everything to clean up the powder mixture and the dirt.

However, before using this method, use caution because it is not a deep-cleaning technique and can result in a buildup of debris in the house if not thoroughly cleaned up.

Encapsulation

One of the most recent techniques that is frequently utilized doesn’t require water to perform: encapsulation cleaning.

A chemical is applied to the carpet after it has been completely vacuumed, and it is then worked into the carpet using a rotary brush or bonnet. The brush’s motion disrupts and breaks up the dirt particles, which are subsequently encircled by chemicals and crystallized to isolate the dirt. A thorough steam cleaning should be performed after every two to three encapsulation cleanings.

However, if your carpet has a lot of grease, then encapsulation might not be the best method to clean your carpet.

Bonnet Cleaning

The last method is bonnet cleaning. It is more frequently utilized for light cleaning maintenance.

After vacuuming the carpet, a mechanical pump or electric sprayer is used to mist a cleaning solution and carbonated water onto the carpet’s surface. The carpet is subsequently wiped with a circular spinning buffer, or “bonnet,” that has an absorbent coating.

For carpets that are only mildly soiled, bonnet cleaning is quick, cheap, and effective. Because it can provide a quick cure for cleaning carpet in high traffic areas where it needs to be cleaned without much wetness and can dry rapidly to avoid generating a hassle, bonneting is usually used for public carpeting like in hotels.

Since bonneting does not thoroughly clean carpet, dirt underneath the carpet would soon reappear, forcing the carpet to become dirty once more. So although it’s cheap and easy compared to the other methods, you would have to frequently do this to keep your carpet clean.

Hire a Professional To Do It For You

Cleaning your carpet can vary in difficulty. Sometimes it can be easy and you can get the cleaning done at home. However, sometimes you might need some heavy duty help cleaning up a heavy duty carpet stain. This is where hiring a professional comes in.

Having a professional cleaning your carpet means you don’t have to deal with the biggest problems in carpet cleaning. Plus, professionals often come with cleaning tools and materials tailor made to handle your specific carpet cleaning issue.
